Thunder Over Louisville

Last Saturday was a great day. It was my last long run before this weekends half marathon and we headed to Thunder over Louisville! Thunder is an airshow and firework show. The firework show is the biggest in North America.
The airshow was nothing to brag about, but still a fun way to fill an afternoon. I read in the newspaper that 700,000 people in Northern Kentucky and Southern Indian were watched the show this year. Which means traffic and I hate traffic! So I looked up the police traffic plan and we parked according to the fastest route home. Worked like a charm.
We had to walk 2 miles to our car, but it was worth it. We didn't have any trouble getting out of town. It was fantastic!
These are the Edwards, aka die hard Thunder fans. We shared a blanket, literally because it was so cold. This is also the only picture we got of the fireworks. The fireworks are shot off of two barges in the middle for the river. The barges are on either side of a bridge and the bridge is also loaded with fireworks. It was amazing! I was worried about Brynlee, but she did great. In fact she fell asleep during the fireworks.
All in all, one great Saturday!

So happy you guys did it. I hope we do it sometime before we leave KY. Maybe we'll go on a date instead of taking the whole family... Good luck this weekend! I wish I could see you finish.

Already? I remembered it being the Saturday before the Derby. Did they have the fountain on and lighted and colored and choreographed with the fireworks? That was the COOLEST. I love the fireworks over water!
I'm sure it was worth the trip from Lexington. Good job on the parking, I'm sure you got home much faster than you would have!

Susie, I didn't see a fountain, but the fireworks were choreographed. The best part was the "waterfall" of fireworks from the bridge. The Derby fest must be getting bigger. They have activities and events everyday for 2 weeks leading up to the Derby. Today they have a hot air balloon race and balloon glow. Tomorrow I will be running the Derby half marathon with 20,000 people.

We are so sad that we had to leave early. Hopefully we will all get to go next year.

So jealous! We've been wanting to go, but Andersen was on call and there is no way I could battle 700,000 people with my crew. Those darn hospital schedules!
