The Derby Half Marathon

Today was my second half marathon. It was the Derby half marathon in Louisville, KY. We are lucky enough to have great friends that live in Louisville and they let us crash at there house Friday night. (Thanks Jamie and Blaine!!)
So now for the good stuff. The weather was a little drizzly when I woke up at 5:30am to get ready, and I was nervous that the it was going to be a miserable day for running, but it turned out to be the perfect day! It rained a little at about mile 4 and 5 but it really felt great and wasn't a very hard rain. Thank goodness. So the first 3 miles of the race are all up hill pretty much and I was feeling really good after that so I decided to pick it up a little. For this race they had a pace team. Pacers are paid to run exact miles to keep you on pace and get you across the finish line at your goal time. I found the 1:55:00 pacer at about mile 6 but I was feeling great so I passed him. But shortly after decided I was getting a little race fever and needed to settle down and pace a bit. So I ran with the pace group until mile 10. The pacers run the marathon and I took the left to finish the half marathon. The last 3 miles were great. I was feeling good and keeping a really great pace. Some how I miss the mile markers and got a little confused as to where I was in terms of miles. Anyway, when I turn the last corner and saw the finish line I realized I had kept pace really well and finished with at time a 1:53:44. I am so happy with my time. I ran a 1:59:40 last half so I was glad to have dropped some time.

Thanks to Angela Noehren for the past 3 months of training and to Bryce for being so supportive and willing to take the early shift with the Brynlee Saturday mornings so I would do my long runs.
